Getting started

What is Hi-Vis?

Hi-Vis builds websites for UK tradespeople. You answer a few questions about your business and Vic, our site assistant, builds your homepage three ways for you to compare, free. Pick the one you like, pay once, and Vic builds the rest of your pages. Change anything yourself, keep it online with us, or take the files anywhere.

Do I really see my site before I pay?

Yes. Vic builds your homepage at all three levels (Starter, Pro and Premium) and you look at them side by side. It costs nothing to look, and you only pay if you pick one. Not for you? Walk away.

How does the free homepage work?

Answer the walkthrough at /start: your trade, your business, the towns you cover, your services, a few photos and your logo if you have one, and a look you like. We email you a 6-digit code to check the email address is yours, then Vic builds your homepage three ways. It's free once per email address. On a very busy day Vic may ask you to come back tomorrow: your answers are saved.

Who is Vic?

Vic is Hi-Vis's site assistant: the one in the hard hat. Vic asks the questions, builds your pages, puts your photos in the right places and makes the changes you ask for. Vic is a computer assistant, not a person, and nothing goes live until you press Publish.

Which trades is Hi-Vis for?

Trades and home services: plumbers, electricians, builders, roofers, landscapers, painters and decorators, plasterers, carpenters and joiners, heating engineers, locksmiths, cleaners, and driveway and patio specialists. Hi-Vis sells to businesses only, sole traders included.

Paying

How much does it cost?

You pay once for your site: Starter £39 (up to 5 pages), Pro £89 (up to 12 pages, with a page for each town you cover, up to 6) or Premium £179 (up to 30 pages, our best design and writing). Hosting is optional: £15 a month or £150 a year. Prices are in pounds sterling and are the total you pay: nothing is added at checkout. There's no monthly fee unless you choose hosting.

What's the difference between the three?

How much Vic builds and how well. Starter is a tidy, standard site of up to 5 pages. Pro has sharper design and writing and up to 12 pages, including a page for each town you cover, up to 6. Premium is our best finish: up to 30 pages, with pages for up to 8 services and 15 towns, and a made-up, illustrated background image if you've no photos (never passed off as your own work). You see your homepage at all three before you choose.

Can I get a refund?

Payment is final once your site is built, because you've seen your homepage before paying. If Vic can't finish building your site, it tries again, and if it still can't, you get your money back automatically (and that site is closed). If your homepage is built but some other pages can't be, you keep your site with those pages left out, and we add enough to Vic's tank for Vic to build them again at no cost to you. Hosting can be cancelled any time and runs to the end of the period you've paid for, with no refunds for part months or years.

Are there any discount codes?

No. Everyone pays the same price, and the free homepages mean you never pay for something you haven't seen.

Hosting and your domain

Do I have to host my site with you?

No. Hosting is optional, at £15 a month or £150 a year. You can always download your site's files and put them on any web host. With our hosting you get your own domain or a free address, the padlock (https), quote requests straight to your inbox, a visitor report every month and a monthly top-up for Vic's tank.

Do I need a domain name?

No. With hosting you get a free address like yourname.onhivis.co.uk. Got a domain already? We show you the two settings to change at the company you bought it from, then connect it and add the padlock for you.

How do I cancel hosting?

From your account, any time. Hosting runs to the end of the month or year you've paid for. After that your site stays online for 14 more days, then shows a 'temporarily unavailable' page. Your site stays in your account, so you can download the files or switch hosting back on.

Do I own my website?

Yes. The words, photos and logo are yours, and we give you all the rights we have in the site Vic builds for you. Download every file whenever you like and put it anywhere: the styles, patterns and fonts in your files are yours to use with your site. Hi-Vis itself (the walkthrough, the editor and Vic) stays ours.

Changing your site

Can I change it myself?

Any time. Click any words or photo to change them, move sections around, add a section from the library, or ask Vic. There's undo, and a history of every change so you can go back.

What is Vic's tank?

Every site comes with a full tank: room for about 300 changes from Vic, like a new headline or a new section (a whole new page uses more). The gauge shows what's left. Running low? £5 adds more room: about 830 changes on Starter, 150 on Pro or 50 on Premium. With hosting, about 30 changes' worth is added every month. Changing words and photos yourself never uses the tank.

Does Vic do the Google side of things?

Vic writes the search basics into every page: a title and description, your local business details, clean page addresses, a sitemap and share images, and checks them before you publish. Nobody honest can promise you a spot on Google, and we don't.

Can I add reviews?

Yes, genuine ones, word for word from real customers. Vic never writes or invents reviews, star ratings, qualifications or years in business, and the law (the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024) bans fake or cherry-picked reviews.

Help

How do I get help?

Ask Vic in the chat on this site, or in the editor once you're building. For anything else, email hello@hivissites.co.uk and we'll reply by email. There's no phone line.

Is there a partner or referral scheme?

No. Hi-Vis doesn't pay referral fees or run a partner scheme.

Still not sure?

See your homepage three ways. It's the quickest way to find out if Hi-Vis is for you.
